The Stuttgart region is the economic and political center of Baden-Württemberg with world-famous companies such as Daimler, Bosch and Porsche, and a huge Mittelstand presence. This prosperity has allowed many firms to remain independent, incl. some highly specialized outfits, and as such Stuttgart has long been seen as a closed shop. This is beginning to change, but with the dominance of Gleiss Lutz and CMS Hasche Sigle, it is difficult for outside firms to gain a foothold.

Significant developments:

- Long-established outfit Kleiner loses its most high-profile partners, who intend to launch their own firm.

- Faced with competition from Munich, Berlin and Frankfurt, firms in Stuttgart need to get creative in their attempt to woo new talent.
