Comment: This respected litigation practice is one of the most present players for insurer disputes. This is also true in connection with D&O affairs, where the team around Finkel is particularly renowned. The firm is becoming rather skilled at expanding its strong position in insurance law to also cover associated fields such as product liability. The most prominent case of the previous year, i.e. the international settlement of claims after the Germanwings plane crash, leads the way for future development at the firm: BLD has to adopt a more international orientation as more and more damages matters, e.g. linked to cybercrime, are no longer contained at national level. Hence the firm recently forming an alliance with reputable specialists in the US, UK and Australia. The necessity of such a strategic move is evidenced by the emergence of internationally active insurance specialists Clyde and Ince in the German market. The move of long-standing BLD partner and litigation specialist Eva-Maria Goergen to Ince was easily overcome by BLD thanks to its high number of established partners. However, this move just goes to show that these new players are serious competitors, also in terms of personnel.
