RITTERSHAUS

Comment: This firm is respected in Frankfurt and recently expanded its track record for M&A transactions in the wake of the success of the central office in Mannheim. It esp. reinforced the firm’s relationship to Merz Pharma: by advising shareholders on restructuring and operational issues, Rittershaus also became involved in a deal when Merz sold its subsidiary, Senator. One setback is that Dr. Cornelia Summ left Rittershaus after only three years. This leaves a gap in advice to Mittelstand clients on financing. Banking lawyer Lars Schmidt and two Mannheim partners are active in this field, but they are less specialized. Since Mittelstand financing fits well with the firm’s other business, reinforcements in this area are an option with strong possibilities.
Practice: Focus on ?corporate, increasingly succession issues. Focus on advice to biotech and pharma companies (esp. advertising medicinal substances, licenses), also trademark and unfair competition law, capital markets, IT and telecoms, employment, ?company succession and trusts. Two notaries (real estate and corporate). (8 partners, 4 associates, 3 of counsel)
Clients: ?? Union Asset Management Holding on investor suit against VW over delayed adhoc communication in the diesel scandal; Merz Pharma on sale of Senator to Perusa; GTI Media on sale of Staufenbiel-Institut to Squeaker; VR Bank Rhein-Neckar on online payment system; Volksbank Weinheim on dispute with major credit customer.
