Comment: This highly recommended corporate practice has over the past few years widened its clientele, at the Frankfurt office in particular. The capital markets/takeover law team has involved TW in transactions where they were not previously seen and this year brought one particular highlight: the advice to the Hessen Ministry of Economics as responsible IPO supervisory authority on the ultimately failed merger of the German and London stock exchanges. It gave TW a degree of visibility in takeover law and was in itself a huge project for Lüßmann and Vaupel’s team. The growing stock corporation law and AGM practice of Kurth in Berlin complements that well. There were also developments in the China practice, long established as a market leader in outbound investments for German companies. For the first time there was significant flow in the opposite direction back to Germany (incl. ?M&A). The family office practice around Kraus continued to integrate further with the strong London practice, offering a pan-European approach that is unusual among large firms.
Strengths: Recognized German-Chinese practice. Considerable technology experience in Munich and Hamburg (now organized in a firm-wide high-tech corporate group). Also ?corporate litigation. Experienced practice in capital markets and takeover law in Frankfurt.
Recommended: Christoph Vaupel, Dr. Lars-Gerrit Lüßmann, Dr. Klaus Grossmann, Robert Wethmar, Stephan Heinemann, Dr. Frank Koch, Michael-Florian Ranft (“always performs highly”, client), Roman Bärwaldt (esp. as notary), Martin Kraus, Marc-Oliver Kurth (“outstanding expertise, very good cooperation”, competitor), Dr. Christian Traichel, Dr. Jakob Riemenschneider.
Practice: Broad practice, mainly for Mittelstand and family companies, increasing advice to corporates; comprehensive restructuring work and litigation. Clients from the branded goods, ?media, ?pharmaceuticals and healthcare, fashion, shipping, chemistry and ?IT and high tech sectors. (Corporate in total: 45 equity partners, 8 salary partners, 23 associates)

Hessian Ministry of the Environment, Climate Protection, Agriculture and Consumer Protection as supervisor for planned merger of Deutsche Börse/London Stock Exchange; Elector on public takeover bid for Clere; Hailo on merger with Daimler subsidiary MyTaxi; Oddo Seydler Bank as financial advisor for Isaria Wohnbau in takeover bid by Lone Star; Scope Corp. on change of legal form.
