GREENBERG TRAURIG

Comment: Two years after launching in Germany, this firm highly recommended for real estate cemented its position in the top market segment. The team, which moved from Olswang almost in its entirety, was not only seen on the side of regular client Berlinovo in high-volume transactions, e.g. the sale of the €420m Pegasus portfolio, it was also very active in project development, e.g. advice to a JV of Benson Elliot and Kauri CAB Group on developing a city district in Berlin. With its interdisciplinary team, which includes a strong finance practice that clients describe as “highly capable in all matters, esp. with an international background”, GT is predestined to advise on project development. The international network is also an asset: this has allowed the practice to widen its German client base as well as advise German clients in the US more often. GT lives up to its reputation as a “very agile firm that tailors its services to the needs of clients” (client and competitor): advice on issues like broadband supply in (residential) real estate is unusual. Moreover, working with software developer Evana, GT became the first firm to develop an app to make transaction advice more transparent for clients. Clients praise the firm’s “exceptional partnership” with respect to “innovation and digitalization”.
Strengths: Outstanding contacts in the real estate sector.
Recommended: Dr. Christian Schede (“very enterprising”, “passionate networker”, competitors), Dr. Peter Schorling (“very pragmatic, outstanding lawyer”, “very precise, strong negotiator, clever”, clients), Dr. Florian Rösch (“very pleasant, friendly, great guy”, “willing to compromise, very good jurist”, “tenacious advocate for his clients”, competitors), Claudia Hard (“tough”, “has a good standing in the market”, client; “very good, friendly, brilliant”, competitor; finance), Dr. Henning-Wolfgang Sieber (“quick, experienced, articulate, knowledgeable, good team, very responsive”, client), Dr. Gordon Geiser (“imaginative and flexible”, competitor).
Practice: Transactions, project development. Close links with tax, ?corporate and finance. Also ?insolvency and restructuring. Innovative approach to advice regarding the supply of energy/broadband to (residential) real estate. PPP and public procurement. (12 partners, 4 counsel, 19 associates, incl. tax, corporate, public law)
