Sullivan & Cromwell

Comment: Highly recommended corporate practice, which profited from its strong track record and has carved out an excellent standing in public takeovers ( ?M&A). The planned merger of Linde and Praxair was esp. prominent. The high-end clients in capital markets are also keeping the practice more than busy. Berrar is by far the most visible and has been for years, but younger partner Schnorbus is beginning to make a name for himself as well.
Strengths: Outstanding reputation for large-volume public takeovers and defense against takeovers.
Recommended: Dr. Carsten Berrar (“always fair and affable”, “very good stock corporation lawyer”, clients), Dr. Wolfgang Feuring (“highly experienced and adroit, great team”, client about both), Dr. Konstantin Technau, Dr. York Schnorbus.
Practice: Advice to listed corporates on public takeovers, often with the US office, and on capital measures. Good contacts to investment banks. (4 partners, 1 counsel, 5 associates)
Clients: ?? Bayer on planned takeover of Monsanto; Praxair on planned merger with Linde; TLG on planned takeover of WCM; Drillisch on takeover by United Internet; Lone Star on takeover of Isaria.
