Dentons

Comment: Dentons has positioned itself as a recommended outfit for structured finance. This development was primarily made possible through the recruitment of a prominent figure: Klüwer, the long-time Clifford Chance partner described as an “unbelievable door-opener” by a competitor, has brought the firm contacts that were previously beyond its grasp. Flanked by the former Baker partner Dr. Matthias Eggert and a further partner who used to be an associate at Clifford, the practice now packs quite a punch. In several cases, the partners were able to tie in with instructions that they had led at their respective previous law firms. In addition to the contacts that Klüwer and Eggert brought with them, the firm’s international network provides a platform. The new team was boosted with an experienced counsel in bank regulatory law from Deutsche Bank.
Development potential: The challenge is now to spin the initial successes into a practice that is well positioned for the long term. Klüwer provides the best expertise and the appropriate prestige. A banking regulatory lawyer who joined from Allen & Overy as a partner two years ago also offers synergies for a stable setup.
Recommended: Dr. Arne Klüwer (“outstanding specialist knowledge, very clever, very diligent”, “a legend”, “really knows what he’s doing”, competitors).
Practice: Advice on the whole spectrum of securitization; NPL transactions; in addition, (restructuring of) bonds in low volumes. (Entire capital markets team: 4 equity partners, 1 salary partner, 1 counsel, 4 associates)
Clients: ?? Vontobel on issue of structured products; Ceinex on introduction of D shares and on dual listing of structured bond products; 3W Power on bond restructuring; various German banks on cross-border securitizations of commercial receivables.
