Latham & Watkins

Comment: The business of this compliance practice is based on individually strong practices that ensure at each step that compliance instructions find their way to the firm. Private equity deals provide a constant work flow, e.g. for CVC, where compliance is a part of due diligence. In its instruction from Facebook, the ?antitrust practice demonstrated its successful cooperation with the ?IT practice, which boasts a renowned data protection expert in Dr. Ulrich Wuermeling. The practice’s greatest strength, however, is its close ties to the US offices, where its connections are every bit as good as those of Baker, and which allow the firm to snap up instructions, e.g. from Deutsche Bank. Nevertheless, the departure of white collar crime specialist Dr. Finn Zeidler to Gibson Dunn left a gap in the practice. In order to ensure a stronger presence for lucrative in-house investigations, L&W will also have to hone its teamwork. (7 partners, 1 counsel, 11 associates)
Clients: ?? Deutsche Bank on investigations of the DOJ in the context of the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery and Enforcement Act (FIRREA); Facebook in market abuse proceedings before the German Federal Cartel Office concerning the interaction between data protection regulations and antitrust law; CVC Capital on compliance in investment in Tipico.
