Clifford Chance

From a practice in turmoil to one of the foremost players for industrial M&A: the developments seen at Clifford Chance are impressive. The main catalyst for the transformation was the arrival of today’s practice head Dr. Anselm Raddatz two years ago. Working with Dr. Thomas Krecek, an expert for banking-related M&A, the practice under his leadership focused more on advancing young partners within the firm and giving them the opportunity to benefit more from the hugely intensified international synergies. Dr. Christoph Holstein in Düsseldorf and Dr. Jörg Rhiel in Frankfurt are leading the way here: the former advised Pfizer on international deals and the latter worked for Freudenberg for the first time in its acquisition of a 50 percent stake in Vibracoustic. In the first deal for Schaeffler, it was Dr. Christof-Ulrich Goldschmidt who took point.
The Munich office can also look back on its best track record of recent years. Work here centered on industrial deals again, like that for Airbus, where Dr. Nicole Englisch stood out. The firm also secured the lion’s share of the highest profile Chinese inbound deals. China expert Dr. Stefanie Tetz is among the market leaders for such transactions. With this squad of young partners, Clifford has set the stage for a spot right at the top of the market for years to come.
