Comment: This practice recommended for equity capital markets is currently in a phase of reorientation. However, that does not stop the team from advising on respectable instructions, e.g. its banking advice on the secondary offerings of Pro7Sat.1 and Steinhoff. But the practice was also active at the side of issuers, incl. on the Corestate IPO. Flagship instructions such as the Uniper IPO, however, are still attributable to the former practice head Dr. Oliver Seiler, who left the firm in fall 2016 for Latham & Watkins together with three associates. Since then, the ECM practice has primarily been represented by a team around the Austrian and US lawyer Plepelits, as well as a German lawyer appointed partner in 2016.
Strengths: Outstanding contacts to (mainly international) banks.
Development potential: The practice took a significant hit to its profile with the departure of Seiler. The team will need figureheads if it is to return to its previous strength.
Recommended: Marc Plepelits.
Practice: IPOs, rights issues, secondary placements, secondary offerings, block trades, listings. (2 partners, 5 associates)
Clients: ?? Berenberg, Citigroup, Commerzbank on Shop Apotheke IPO; JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley on Uniper IPO; Corestate on IPO; Goldman Sachs, UniCredit on secondary offering of Pro7Sat.1; JPMorgan, BofA, BNP Paribas, Citigroup, HSBC on €2.45bn secondary offering of Steinhoff.
