CLIFFORD CHANCE

Comment: Highly recommended firm in energy law mainly seen in transactions. Many thought the move of a large team to White & Case two years ago would spell the end of energy advice for CC. But they were wrong. CC held on to young partner Heinlein, who has since made a mark in advice on deals and finance, as has Raddatz, who came from Freshfields and is putting his contacts to good use. The firm was thus involved in many of the year’s major deals, be it the bidding war for Thyssengas or advice to Ewz and Fontavis concerning Borkum II. The practice advises investors and suppliers on new strategic aspects; EQT Infrastructure was advised on an agreement with Getec. Ties to the public lawyers are strong, enabling smooth cooperation in projects. CC raised its prices as part of its restructuring, but some clients take exception to the high fees and criticize the price-performance ratio.
