BAKER & MCKENZIE

Comment: Highly recommended firm which built on the progress of recent years. Its traditional strength in transactions and increased expertise in stock corporation law was evident in the firm’s greater presence in public takeovers, incl. the Corestate/Hannover Leasing project in the financial services sector – not usually a focus of the practice. An array of new clients from Sky Deutschland to BSH demonstrate that the firm plays in the big leagues as a core advisor to some German corporates in challenging structural and governance issues. Here as in several comprehensive international projects, e.g. for a notable trade corporate and a DAX company, the corporate lawyers are active in a field that is usually the domain of rivals such as Hogan Lovells and Linklaters. The arrival of a team from Taylor Wessing last year led to the firm raising its profile in the energy and infrastructure sectors.
Strengths: Interface between corporate and compliance, strong east Asian practice. Increasingly visible in takeover law.
Recommended: Dr. Andreas Lohner, Wilhelm Hebing, Dr. Manuel Lorenz, Dr. Nikolaus Reinhuber, Dr. Ingo Strauss, Dr. Christian Vocke, Christian Atzler, Dr. Björn Simon, Dr. Thomas Gilles.
Practice: Advice on large-scale (international) restructuring, AGMs, refinancing. Advice on takeover law by capital markets lawyers. Corporate litigation and ?M&A transactions. Strong ?compliance practice. (5 equity partners, 9 salary partners, 2 counsel, 15 associates)
Clients: ?? Accenture Digital Holdings on public takeover of SinnerSchrader; Corestate on public takeover of majority stake in Hannover Leasing; DFL on JV with Deltatre; ZF Friedrichshafen on spinoff of Cherry; expert opinion for BSH on corporate organization and liability law.
