GLEISS LUTZ

Comment: A leading firm in corporate. More so than in transactions, GL is a mainstay in traditional corporate work as an advisor to major German companies on key issues (often related to conflicts or crises). The most prominent example was the advice to the VW supervisory board on the diesel scandal, now extended to include the subsidiary Audi. GL was also involved in the biggest restructuring case in the German banking sector with its advice to the HSH supervisory board. Apart from this flagship instruction, the practice scores more points in other fields rather than the financial sector, e.g. the technology and auto sectors, as an array of challenging corporate projects for notable clients from Daimler to ZF demonstrate. The lawyers frequently show they are more than capable of holding their own against international rivals in cross-border work, e.g. with projects such as Tui/Etihad. The Berlin office, which has attracted attention for its strong notary and expertise in the healthcare sector, was strengthened with the first partner appointment in a while.
Strengths: Particularly experienced in AGM disputes.
Development potential: To position itself more clearly as an advisor to the financial sector, GL needs to better exploit the contacts of its banking experts for corporate advice. The successes of recent years have already shown that compliance issues can act as an important bridge here.
