Claims Manager for Casualty (m/f/d)* 


We are seeking a motivated claims manager and legal counsel for dynamic claims work in our Global Casualty claims department to support our team:

Your job
Managing and conducting legal review of our international casualty claims portfolios (such as motor & personal lines)

  • Managing claims (i.e. assessing indemnity and quantum within defined limits of authority, generating ultimate estimation of major losses, and maintaining ongoing review of reserves for individual losses and loss complexes). Focus on added value, for example by negotiating coverage, liability, and allocation issues, or initiating subrogations including liaising with other MR international organisations
  • Servicing, consulting, and monitoring our cedents with regards to claims matters. In particular, conducting claims reviews and visits at client offices, also in cooperation with other MR international organizations
  • Applying new technologies and alternative solutions for Claims-related portfolio analysis, as well as supporting new business initiatives related to innovative claims technologies (e.g. automation, fraud detection/prevention solutions)
  • Monitoring and reporting legislative changes, legal trends, and their impact on Munich Re’s claims management
  • Supporting client management and underwriting (claims feedback and lessons learned, advising on wording issues/client’s reserving policies, etc.)
  • Fostering expertise and synergies through cooperation within the Claims units
  • Contributing to working groups, in-/external workshops, and events on current claims topics

Your profile

  • Many years’ experience handling international casualty claims in primary insurance, combined with a good understanding of how to handle and reserve severe bodily injury claims
  • Certified attorney at law (or comparable long-time practical experience in the area required)
  • Extensive understanding of related insurance and reinsurance coverage interpretation, loss reserving, loss report management, litigation management, and client relationship management
  • Strategic thinking and ability to get to the core of complex legal and economic matters, combined with strong analytical skills and ability to work systematically and independently
  • Interest in digital claim services that could enhance the claims processes of our cedents
  • Focused on results and solutions, with excellent negotiating and conflict-management skills, decisive, good team player
  • Willingness to travel internationally – sometimes also on short notice
  • Excellent command of written and spoken business English and Spanish – other languages (such as German) are advantageous
