Internet of Things (IoT) Legal Counsel (m/f/d)*

Munich Re’s global IoT department shapes the future of the Munich Re Group beyond risk management solutions and realizes Munich Re’s vision by developing loss-preventing IoT technology and cutting-edge IoT solutions. We are driving new value propositions for Equipment-as-a-Service, smart factories, and risk control based on technology and insurance. The Regulatory & Commercial department - part of Munich Re’s Group Compliance & Legal function - is responsible for comprehensive legal advice, drafting, and execution in the areas of general contract law, finance, regulatory law, and anti-trust. We are looking for a legal counsel to join the Group Compliance and Legal department with primary responsibility for IoT initiatives and day-to-day integration into the IoT team.

Your job

  • Taking full ownership of setting a consistent legal framework and providing comprehensive legal advice for all IoT activities on matters such as intellectual property, data ownership, contract wording, and regulatory issues
  • Translating the dynamically developing IoT product suite into legal language
  • Drafting, negotiating, and executing legal documents, including memoranda of understanding, partnership cooperation agreements, customer contracts (incl. leasing/insurance/service components), and other project-related contractual matters (e.g. rental agreements, asset purchasing agreements, license agreements)
  • Steering external legal experts where required and coordinating all legal activities with internal and external legal experts and other stakeholders. In particular, working closely with legal experts within the group to leverage the available knowledge and ensure consistency across the group
  • Actively contributing to legal best practices and excellence initiatives beyond IoT

Your profile

  • Qualified lawyer status (completion of two state examinations with above-average results vollbefriedigend), or an equivalent qualification from a different jurisdiction)
  • Minimum 5 years of international experience in practicing law
  • Ideally, experience in relevant industries (e.g. manufacturing, automation, process industry or similar)
  • Significant experience handling multiple stakeholders
  • Conceptual thinker, capable of abstract reasoning and developing holistic approach in line with IoT strategy and client needs
  • Highly driven to turn vision into reality with strong solution-oriented/can-do attitude and proven analytical problem-solving skills
  • Able to communicate complex issues to internal/external stakeholders in accessible way
  • Proactive problem solver who takes ownership
  • Able to work in a dynamic environment with a high degree of uncertainty; high level of flexibility and stress tolerance; target-driven and self-organized
  • High social competence, team player
  • Fluent business English is mandatory; German and additional languages are an asset
